Celebrate Earth Day with Potter the Otter!

Earth Day is on April 22, 2026, a special day to celebrate our planet and learn how to keep it clean, healthy, and beautiful for future generations. Even small actions can make a big difference!

To help families celebrate, FIRST 5 has gathered fun and educational Potter the Otter resources for children to enjoy at home, in the classroom, or out in nature.

If you use any of these activities, we’d love to see it, tag us on Instagram or Facebook!

2. Read Potter the Otter Grows a Garden Book 🌱

Enjoy Potter the Otter’s gardening story and inspire children to learn where food comes from, how plants grow, and why caring for the earth matters. Reading together is a great way to spark conversations about responsibility, patience, and the joy of growing something new.

3. Free Grow, Learn & Play Teaching Guide 📚

Subscribe to our newsletter to receive our free downloadable Grow, Learn, and Play with Potter the Otter teaching guide.

This standards-aligned resource is supplementary to our Potter the Otter Grows a Garden book (above) and includes engaging activities and learning opportunities designed to help children connect with nature through play, reading, and discovery.

4. Plant Something Together 🌼

Celebrate Earth Day by planting flowers, herbs, or vegetables with your child. Even a small pot on a windowsill can become a fun learning experience.

Talk about what plants need to grow: sunlight, water, soil, and care!

5. Practice Earth-Friendly Habits ♻️

Use Earth Day as a chance to build simple habits as a family, such as:

  • Picking up litter
  • Recycling properly
  • Turning off lights when leaving a room
  • Saving water while brushing teeth
  • Reusing bags and containers

Small habits today help create a healthier tomorrow.
