That’s why we’re proud to celebrate the incredible dedication of the educators who participate in the myTeachstone professional development program. Their commitment to continuous learning helps create stronger relationships, richer learning experiences, and brighter futures for the children and families they serve.
For Maryam H., an early educator and family child care provider in Santa Clara County, learning has always been part of her journey. Born in Iran, Maryam later moved to California with the dream of furthering her education while nurturing young children as they learn in both her native language and English.
Through myTeachstone, Maryam discovered that meaningful interactions often begin with small, intentional change. “I learned that even small changes in the way I communicate with children can make a big difference. The myTeachstone program helped me become more intentional in asking open-ended questions, listening carefully, and creating meaningful conversations throughout the day,” she says.
These everyday moments matter. Quality interactions are at the heart of early childhood education. Every meaningful conversation, encouraging word, and thoughtful response contributes to children’s healthy development and lifelong success.
During her time in the program, Maryam worked through a difficult personal challenge. She learned that her family in Iran was directly affected by the current conflict, leaving her heartbroken and emotionally overwhelmed. It was painful to witness their hardship from thousands of miles away because she wasn’t able to support them.
However, Maryam remained committed to her professional growth and to the children in her care. Through resilience, perseverance, and dedication, she successfully completed the myTeachstone courses. Her professional development journey stands a powerful reminder that even in the face of challenges, a commitment to yourself and families can inspire meaningful growth.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is witnessing the growth, resilience, and dedication of the educators who participate in myTeachstone,” says Patty Serrano, who coordinates the program at FIRST 5 Santa Clara County. “Educators like Maryam are why we do what we do. It’s been amazing to see her flourish through the program.”
Maryam’s story is a powerful reminder that early educators are lifelong learners whose dedication extends far beyond the classroom. Even during life’s most difficult moments, they continue showing up for children with compassion, patience, and care.
